Yoga & Pilates Class Definitions

YOGA

Asana Yoga:  Teaching your mind and body with your breath, as well as connecting you to your spirituality, these are the main goals of yoga. The physical part of yoga focuses on Asana’s (poses). A person who practices yoga goes through a series of Asana’s while controlling your breathing.

Ashtanga Yoga:

Focus on correct alignment, connecting breathe to movement and strengthening the body. The meditative pace of the class allows students to move from posture to posture while creating heat in the body.

Cycle-Yoga:  Cycle-Yoga is an intense group cycling class followed by a 30 minute vinyasa yoga flow. The 30 minute cycle class brings elements of the yoga mat into a vigorous ride while 30 minutes of vinyasa yoga lengthens muscles, encourages strength, and elongates breath. The combination provides the participants both cardiovascular and strength training in a time-conscious foremat.

Gentle Yoga:  Gentle Yoga works on opening the major joints of the body. We use awareness and breath to give the spine more flexibility.  This gentle and relaxing class is perfect for those with tight hips and shoulders.

Iyengar Yoga:  A method of yoga focusing on technique, sequence and timing through posture and breath control.

Vinyasa Yoga:  A flowing yoga. This style coordinates breath with movement to warm the body and loosen muscles and joints. This class can be vigorous but relaxing. All levels welcome.

Vinyasa II:  A flowing yoga, intermediate class. This style coordinates breath with movement to warm the body and loosen muscles and joints. This class can be vigorous but relaxing.

Yoga Sculpt:  This total body workout is designed to tone and sculpt every muscle group in your body. You will use free weights as you move through sun salutations and other Yoga postures enabling extra length and depth in each pose.
